WHAT IS IT - breaking away not looking back , harnessing technology. Making things , recreate things that can be re-produced.

  • Form follows function - Louis Sullivan 1986 'the tall office building artistically considered.
  • Philosophy of minimalism
Images we looked at - 
  • Cheret 1884 ,Toulouse - Lautree 1891 - colours easy to manufacture. 
  • Parole in liberta - Maronety - Poet 'words in freedom' - onomatopoeia , looks modern it only uses type.
  • Marringtti - Belle 
  • Fortunato Depero 1927 bolted book. - makes you think about the actual form of book.
  • Appolinaire 1918 pleut - water.

  • No fonts except - Grotesk fit for the modern age.
  • Fraktur
  • Tschischole criticise this.
  • It is nationalistic
  • Not historic , not looking backwards moving forward.

  • Abandoning of drawn illustration in favour of photography - 
  • Its modernist because its all aligned , same font , says new graphics in 3 different languages & its straight to the point.

  • Massimo Vignelli 70's he spoke the 1972 subway guide and how it was silly and would be better if it was just ' one dot one stop'  
  • Graphics should be based on logic and not emotion
  • He didn't like post modernism.

Thoughts on Helvetica - Only a few things you can do with Helvetica. He doesn't love it & doesn't hate it.
