Crytical Analysis - Aesthetics 16/11

Aesthetic image analysis

we got put into groups and had to talk about our six images around the group why we liked and disliked them.

Then pick two images one we like one we dislike , with a post it note write five reasons for each why it we found it aesthetically pleasing , & why we didn't like it. Using the following too images-

What i liked- Geometric , Simple , Good use of choice , Symmetry & clean
Why i didn't like it - Messy , No structure , Bad choice of colour , Illegible & Bad quality

Group lists positive-
  • Illustrative
  • simple
  • clever
  • clean
  • symmetrical
  • minimal
  • sophisticated
  • crisp
  • textured
  • hand rendered
  • harmonised
  • organic
negative-
  • blurry
  • cluttered
  • random
  • illegible
  • boring
  • grainy
  • dull
  • cheesy
  • inconsistent
  • silly
  • confusing
  • cheap
Important we recognise immediate response , no body wants to look at something if its poor quality, wouldn't keep people engaged. We swapped our work and another person from another group wrote on a post it note the same 5 things for each image and we did the same for theres.

Partner list:-

  • All graphic design should be legible
  • Graphic design should be aesthetically consistent
  • Colours should be appropriate to the content
  • Quality not Quantity
  • Dont let the type face over power the message
  • Graphic design should have a purpose
  • Complex graphic design should be clean
  •  No more than 3 fonts
  • The Design must be innovative and creative

My 3 Rules of aesthetics;-
  • Design must be innovative and creative
  • graphic design should have a purpose
  • Colours should be appropriate to the content.
At the end of the session we spreaded out all of the work on the table and chose one image that fit with our 3 rules of aesthetics. e.g. for this 3d type face , I believe it is innovative and creates a purpose.I found the colours were appropriate for the content and its an alphabet its formal and fits. Where as the for the other image on the right it doesn't fit any of my rules. The colours don't fit to content theres to many and it looks cheap and poorly put together , and i don't believe it has a purpose.

TACIT , IMPLICIT & EXPLICIT

Tacit-Understood or implied without being stated
Implicit- Implied though not plainly expressed
Explicit-Stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt.
