For the module OUGD505 i felt it would be appropriate to have a look at binding methods that i might possible use for my publication I'm already aware of binding methods but thought i would refresh my memory.
THERMAL BINDING
uses a one piece cover with glue down the spine to quickly and easily bind documents without the need for punching. Individuals usually purchase "thermal covers" or "therm-a-bind covers" which are usually made to fit a standard size sheet of paper and come with a glue channel down the spine.
WIRE BINDING
Wire binding is one of the most popular commercial book binding methods used in North America and is known by a number of different names including twin loop wire, Wire-o, double loop wire, double-o, ring wire and wirebind. ..
RING BINDING
A binding technique where pages are punched or drilled at one edge and inserted into two or more metal rings held inside a stiff cover.
PERFECT BOUND
In binding and finishing, a means of binding utilizing an adhesive to hold pages together. Perfect binding, also known asadhesive binding, applies an adhesive to the spine of gathered pages which, when dry, keeps them securely bound. Commonly, a soft paper or paperboard cover (or paperback) is attached over the binding adhesive. Perfect bound publications have rectangular backbones. Publications bound by perfect binding include paperback books, telephone books, catalogs, and magazines. (About 40% of national magazines are perfect bound.)
COMB BINDING
Comb binding is one of many ways to bind pages together into a book. This method utilizes round plastic spines with 19 rings or 21 rings and a hole puncher that makes rectangular holes. Comb binding is sometimes referred to as plastic comb binding or spiral comb binding.
I am very interested in going with the wire binding although i also like the comb binding i will go to a specialist book binding place or vernon street to look at examples before i make my final decision.
