Newspaper Research

Brief : Create a body of research in response to a story issue or theme found in the national press tomorrow, 22/10

Mandatory requirements: The story issue or theme must come a newspaper published on 22/10
Deliverables: A body of research (visual , photos) into the story of your choice. & A physical copy of the newspaper.

The story i have picked to research is ' Internet Trolls Sick taunts over Adele's baby boy' this article i found was in the daily mail.

The article talks about Adele's abuse she has received from trolls via twitter , death threats and general awful language towards her and her week old baby boy. The two people who gave death threats have now deleted there twitter accounts.

Minoru Thatha wrote ' i swear ill go see her in the UK and kill her and her baby. someone went on to say she should use cot death as writing material. Siobhan Freegaurd, founder of the UK parenting website Netmums said that people are cruel to write such things and post - natal depression is a very serious illness which affects in some form up the third of new mums. The article goes on to explain other celebrites

Tom Daley got abuse via twitter after he preformed his dive at the olympics somebody tweeted him saying he had let his farther down.

Gary Barlow was also abused on twitter by ex big brother member kenneth tong-

Nicola Brookes won a legal case against Facebook when people took her identity and made a Facebook page about her.

People who use twitter:-

I prepared my work on two A3 sheets of with a brief description and images of and info graphics combined with past stores of twitter scandals.

I chose this story because i use twitter my self and found it interesting i also enjoy Adele's music and found this to be a shocking story. I loved my crit and found it really helped me with what route to go down. I think social networking is one of the biggest causes of bullying and i would really like to focus my further research on. I find it important that people are aware of young peoples behaviour and more action should be taken against these situations. 

Types of cyber bullying

Online harassment: Repeatedly sending offensive messages via email or other textmessaging to a person.

Cyberstalking: Online harassment that includes threats of harm or is excessively intimidating.

Denigration: Sending harmful, untrue, or cruel statements about a person toother people or posting such material online.

Masquerade: Pretending to be someone else and sending or posting material that makesthat person look bad.

Outing: Sending or posting material about a person that contains sensitive, private, orembarrassing information, including forwarding private messages or images.

Exclusion: Cruelly excluding someone from an online group.

I came across a website called ' No H8 Campaign' there MISSION STATEMENT: The NOH8 Campaign is a charitable organization whose mission is to promote marriage, gender and human equality through education, advocacy, social media, and visual protest. I think this website is amazing people from all over the world get involved and share there storys so many people sharing about there personal experiences about being bullied ect. it really does help people know that there not alone and you can do something about it.

JAKE GREENHALGH

For my alphabet soup brief Jake Greenhalgh is my partner i asked him a series of questions and brainstormed a few ideas of things he likes this research will help me create my typeface based on Jake.

Architecture -

Ive looked at some architecture images , when talking to jake he described how he found them interesting . Not the actual building to look at , the design.
Music & Dj'ing -

I love this electric boutique flyer for a night out at oceanas- The type is so unique i think it really resembles a microphone wire and i definitely will use something like this as a starting point.

To come up with the best typeface i had to find out what Jake loved and what things interest him after speaking to him i found out he Djs and he loves music , he also owns his own decks.

Screen printing -

Jake likes screen printing so i researched into a few images. I think screen printing is amazing and there lots of different techniques to try so ill try and incorporate some into my alphabet or a similar style.

Si Scott-

Si Scotts work is amazing. Jake liked him because he has some really good hand written illustrative work. He described Si Scotts work as perfect and liked that it wasn't computer generated.
I personally love Si Scott and i will definitely combine a style of type like the electric boutique flyer with something inspired from one of the images above.


Further Research :

i researched into some wire like fonts and thin lines to see if it was right idea to look for a type face of this style i found these four i really liked and decided to definitely use a thin line font to represent digital music and architecture.

The in the studio in our blog groups we looked at the research we had collected of the 30 different typefaces we had found for our summer brief. We created different sub categories to organize the typefaces into and laid them out on the table..

Our brief is to create 10 letter forms that explore and communicate your interpretation of the word that we have been given from the randomiser.

Requirements:- each image should contain only one letter form but the set should demonstrate a rang of possible solutions. Each resolved letter form should be supported by a broad rang of visual investigation in the form of design sheets and notebooks.

Deliverable's:- 10 , 10x10 resolutions each representing a well crafted and clearly presented typographic form.

My word that i selected from the randomiser was :- BOOM

I first researched the word boom...

• Research...

The most obvious images found were big explosive pictures the first thing you think of when you think of the word boom.

I found these images on google . These images are bright and bold which i was what i wanted to create for my 10 letters. I would initially use the colour red but we had to keep our letters either black or white.

This image is of an actual explosion i really wanted to have the after effects of the explosion to create the route of my development for the word boom. eg. crumbled rubble.

I looked at more possible ideas like loud fonts and sound waves. For sound waves i always thought they were in a stereotypical line like up and down. I then found an image of sound being produced from a horn and i love the ripple affect it still looks broken up and fits in with the idea i had of crumbled pieces.

I really enjoyed looking for different typefaces to that looked like crumbled rock to give me inspiration for my 10 letters. I found a few 'rock' types on a type website but they weren't crumbled and broken up enough as i wanted i looked at another website and chose a possible three types to re-create.
