Im glad i took the time to look at what was already out there and how people have interpreted the book. As i like executing design that is quite minimal i decided to look at alternative book covers for inspiration. Lastly i looked at winners from last year and previous entries to see what the brief looks for. I now feel confident to begin designing my book cover.

Tiger print - Brief Research patterns

TIGER PRINT - RESEARCH PATTERNS

When i began researching into patterns for tiger print i first came across the branding of some honey with two different patterns. I think this style pattern would be perfect for a repeat pattern for the brief so i think i will try recreate something similar.

Floral leaf style photographic pattern , i think this idea would also look really good i will test this style print when developing my ideas.

LOOKING AT CURRENT MARKS & SPENCER TRENDS -

On part of the brief it suggests to look at current trends for inspiration i decided to look on the marks and spencer's website and began to look at the home ware section to get an idea of there pattern styles and current themes throughout there products.

They have quite a variety of different styles of patterns.. 

Floral , geometric  & monochrome. Some of the patterns are repeat patterns and they all keep a consistent contemporary style.

With the patterns and trends i have now i can began mocking up and developing my ideas.

Researching - Specimen Books

RESEARCHING - SPECIMEN BOOKS

Before submission i decided to look at some specimen books to see how they lay there work out.

This typeface has been placed on a landscape page and split in half i think it works well and has impact.

This fold out poster features lots of different elements of the typeface that has been designed.

I really like the way this specimen book has been presented also the binding method used.

A lot of the specimen books i have looked at are very precise the problem with our typeface is it only comes in one size and weight as its hand drawn so this practical style of distribution wouldnt be appropriate for Beth & my work. I'm glad i have researched into them as we can still take elements from it and inspiration for our submission boards.
