Democratic lecture

Democratic Lecture:-

Logical and emotional

Logical/rational - designers that use logic utilise clarity and function rationalise the communicative elements beyond any other mean to present a formal and precise argument to their audience. the form follows function bunch.

Emotional designers that use any and every form of communication a valuable intelligence wit humour serendipity ect. to create and emotional connection.

The deeper you dig the higher you rise
and thats where your brand will come from.

The portfolio is probably the most subjective piece of work you will ever design - not everyones going to like it.

Answer things visually.

Dont copy the style of work e.g.. magazines

There is a growing feeling among practitioners that theory is taking over from practice. Design graduates, many believe are ill - equipped for the world of work. Thus work placements are becoming ever more important as a bridge between college and consultancy.

''The biggest change is design education has been a huge increase in student numbers. The UK now produces and estimated 12,500 design graduates a year nearly had the entire european total. given that there are only about 75,000 people working directly in the UK design businesses.''

WHY YOU SHOULD

agency insight
new expectations
real work
hone all of you skills
build bridges ad meet some interesting folk
put you ahead of the competition
improve your tea making
reassure you of your ability make you more confident

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T

make a loss money - wise
away for a period of time more often than not alone
taken advantage of

GETTING A PLACEMENT

have a hit list
research everything
talk to people who have been through the experience

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOURE THERE

be punctual
a little enthusiasm goes a long way
be yourself
spell their fucking name right

DESIGN IS ABOUT PEOPLE

YOUR PERSONALITY AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE REALTIONSHIPS AT WORK IS A MASSIVE FACTOR OF YOUR EMPLOYABILITY.

ENTHUSIASM IS INFECTIOUS.
