Monotype - Analysing The Big Issue

MONOTYPE - ANALYSING THE BIG ISSUE

Me and Beth looked at the big issue so we could get a feel for there design style and how they display there content and made some notes.

The big issues cover uses a celebrity that they feature in there story and using the big issue in north generally at the top of the page.

The magazine uses lots of advertisements throughout. The contents page features everything throughout the magazine it heavily focus on celebrity news.

Within the first few pages the big issue will use a large story something thats happening in the news and it will run over a double page spread usually having a large image.

The magazine has a section on street life and it features something thats happening in the community and this specific issue is talking about a homeless support group. It uses text to fill around the image and down the sides.
Celebrity used on the cover - double page spread.
Another story using large bleed image and text.
Further advertising. & Author Q & A featuring a small image of her.
Film advertisements and reviews.

We noticed the magazine had a lot of text placed in a crammed way which made it unappealing for the viewer and not aesthetically pleasing. We made a small list of what we could do differently :

  • Less text
  • Structured Grid
  • Different use of typography
  • images placed better
