Today i had another chat with Amber about my critical writing. I took with my introduction and prologue to have that looked over.
Prologue-
I
have chosen to focus my critical writing on the theme of branding focusing on
the fashion industry. Through the progression of my design practice I feel
branding is the area of design I am most interested in. I am partially
interested in how branding can make things more successful and how design can
make a difference.
Introduction-
“ To what extent does effective
branding determine the success of a clothing company”?
Brands are more than name, brands are
an identity and fundamentally the first thing you see and you remember. A brand
has a number of aspects, which you subconsciously take in on a day to day
basic. The factors of these brands are vast and differentiate from brand to
brand. The values of the brand are extensive from the ethos right to the logo
and everything in between. ‘A product has no identity; a brand does. It garners an
identity through its name, its association with cultural meaning, its
dissemination through mass manufacturing and advertising campaigns and other
strategies designed to give it what can be called “cultural relevance”. (PG25
Brands – Marcel Danesi) But what can be now classed as culturally revenant has
branding become that advanced that the consumer is constantly engaged?
This essay will focus on branding
with in the fashion industry it will explore the different technicalities in
how brands are created questioning their success.
Through case studies and analyses
this essay will look at specific brands, trends, social classes and slow and
fast fashion this will pose the discussion to what extent does branding
influence the success of clothing companies, if at all.

Other Notes -
- Don't have a chapter for consumerism you will just touch on it with in each chapter
- Talking about social media will be relevant as its a part of a brand (maybe compare social media of Topshop with somewhere like M&S)
How can i start talking about case studies straight from my introduction?
- To start this investigation i have looked at these successful brands ect ect . Looking/Comparing different price points & different demographics.
Next me and Amber made a little plan of how many words i should aim for for each chapter.

This meeting really helped me get some things finalised and I'm pleased my introduction is on the right track just needs some things adding. At the moment I'm am contacting people for my case studies i also I'm starting to right my second chapter.
